According to a recent survey conducted by the Research Department of real estate company Misgav, Israelis are crazy about penthouses, considered as the key allowing them to access a certain
social status

To the point of being ready to pay hundreds of thousands of shekels more, in the city and sometimes even up to 40% more, in small villages or yishouvim, than their market value! Lior Roth, head of the Department, explains that potential buyers "are ready to restrict their family budget to the maximum and take a larger mortgage loan, just to live in a penthouse even if it is built with the same materials as the rest of the building". Why are these penthouses so expensive then? According to Roth, each residential project only features one or two penthouses, so they are quite rare on the market and buyers are thus convinced that they have made a good investment. And they are right, as it turns out that penthouse prices increase more sharply than those of the overall market...
