The recent history of Ramat Beit Shemesh begins in 1990 with the construction of Ramat Beit Shemesh Alef, an ambitious urban plan designed to accommodate the English-speaking ultra-Orthodox population. Success was immediate: thousands of Anglo-Saxon and French families flocked, attracted by the combination of an intense religious environment, new infrastructure, proximity to Jerusalem and more affordable prices. Extensions Bet (in the 2000s), Gimel and Daled (since 2010) have continued this dynamic.
